The Otorohanga Zoological Society does more than just administer the Kiwi
House.
In 2001/2002 some of our activities included:
- The committee sought help from members to remove flax in the Deer
Park.
- Release of North Island Robins: A breeding pair of North Island
Robin were released into the Barry Rowe Aviary. The committee sought
help from members to feed birds in the wild at Pureora so that a pair
could be captured.
- Spring Migration Day: A day to marvel the return of wading birds to
The Miranda Shorebird
Center. A bus trip to Miranda was organized on 7 October, 2001.
- Another visit to
Miranda to farewell the birds and experience the
Kaiaua Wine and Food Festival in March 2002.
- An overnight trip to Tiritiri
Matangi on 13-14 April, 2002. We traveled to Gulf Harbor and
took the ferry to the Island. This island paradise was a wonderful
opportunity to see saddleback, stitchbird, takahe and other
endangered species.
